Guniwirt is a historic three-star in Krakaudorf, a quiet village in the Krakau valley of Styria, and it is more of a wellness retreat than a ski hotel. The spa and wellness centre includes a sauna, steam room, hammam and fitness room, the sun terrace and patio take in garden and mountain views, and the restaurant welcomes families. I would book it for a calm winter break with time in the spa. A 9.1 from 55 guests is excellent.

The spa surprised us with how much it offered: sauna, steam room, hammam and a fitness centre, which we used most afternoons after skiing. The family-friendly restaurant made dinners easy with the kids, who felt welcome from the first evening. Warm, peaceful and good value.
