Familien- und Vitalhotel Mühlpointhof
Lofer family hotel with its own bakery, thermal pools and a free ski bus
About this hotel
Mühlpointhof sits centrally in Lofer with the Loferer Alm ski area a genuine five-minute walk away, close enough that the town's café culture and the mountain both stay within easy reach throughout the day. The wellness area runs a swimming pool, sun bed, sauna and steam bath, usable by every guest rather than reserved for a premium tier of room. Rooms have wooden floors, a fridge and a bathroom with shower or tub, some with a sofa bed for families needing the extra space during a longer stay. Homemade pastries at the on-site café round out the day, giving Mühlpointhof a genuinely local, family-run feel despite the fuller wellness offering on hand.
- In-house master bakery for breakfast breads and cakes
- Thermal water world with heated indoor and outdoor pool
- Free ski bus to the Almenwelt Lofer valley station
- Ski cellar and ski rental in the hotel
- Lodges in the old sawmill with three bedrooms and a wood sauna
- Natural bathing pond in the garden
Our take
The Mühlpointhof bakes its own bread and cakes in a master bakery on site, and that sets the tone of this family hotel in the centre of Lofer. For skiing, a free ski bus runs to the valley station of the Almenwelt Lofer, whose 46 km of slopes are mostly easy, a good match for families. The thermal water world, with a heated indoor and outdoor pool and several saunas, fills the afternoons. I would book it for parents of young skiers. Experts who need steep terrain every day will run out of challenge in two days.
- Plan for the lift ride: the Kinderland nursery areas sit at the top of the Almbahn II at around 1,350 m, not in the village, so beginners start the day with two lifts.
- Use the hotel's free ski bus to the valley station rather than walking in ski boots along the road with children and gear.
- Ask about the new lodges in the old sawmill, open since December 2025: 100 m², three bedrooms and a private wood sauna, suited to two families together.
- Book lessons with Skischule Sturm or Skischule Herbst, the two schools running children's courses at the Kinderland on the Loferer Alm.

Why guests love itI think this hotel answers the question most parents ask about Lofer: where to sleep so that the ski day starts easily. The ski bus to the Almbahn I is free, the ski cellar and rental are in the house, and the slopes above are mostly blue, with two Kinderland areas and a covered magic carpet of 140 m at the Loferer Alm. The village lies at around 640 m, so the lower runs depend on snowmaking early and late in the season. The pool area, the playroom and the in-house bakery make bad-weather days easier. The guest score is 9 out of 10, but on only two reviews, so I would not lean on it. Skiers who want nightlife or a large linked ski area should look at other valleys.
