About this hotel
Das Central – Alpine . Luxury . Life is a five-star hotel in Sölden, in Tyrol's Ötztal valley, and the hotel behind ice Q, the glass restaurant on the Gaislachkogl. Our take
Das Central is the hotel behind ice Q, the glass restaurant on the Gaislachkogl that became a SPECTRE filming location in 2015, and that ambition shows in the house. Its Summit Spa covers 2,000 m² above the roofs of Sölden, with around ten saunas and steam baths, a 17 m Summit Infinity Pool and an outdoor whirlpool. It is not on the piste: a private ski shuttle runs guests to the gondolas. I would book it for couples and strong skiers who spend the day on the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers and want a serious spa and dinner at night. I would not pick it to walk out of the door onto the snow.
- Come early in the season: Sölden's two glaciers open for skiing on their own from early October to 11 November 2026, before the rest of the ski area opens on 12 November.
- Use the hotel's private ski shuttle to the gondolas rather than walking through the village in ski boots, since the hotel is not on a piste.
- Book lunch at ice Q on a ski day: the restaurant sits on the Gaislachkogl next to 007 ELEMENTS, the James Bond installation, which is worth an hour off the skis.
- For a late-season trip, the full ski area runs until 18 April 2027 and the glaciers alone until 2 May, so a spring week still means skiing up to 3,340 m.
Why we love it
- A 2,000 m² rooftop spa with around ten saunas and steam baths
- Lunch at ice Q on the Gaislachkogl
- A shuttle to the lifts instead of a walk in ski boots
- Two glaciers for skiing from October to May
Why guests love itDas Central's saunas and steam baths, rooftop infinity pool and Ötztaler Stube set an adult tone, and that is the first thing a family should weigh. Sölden itself has around 144 km of slopes and 31 lifts between 1,350 m and 3,340 m, which suits teenagers and parents who ski well more than small children who are still learning. The hotel's own website mentions no kids club, and it has no position at the foot of a nursery slope: children ride the private shuttle like everyone else. Guests score the hotel 9.3 out of 10 across 63 reviews. With young beginners, I would choose a hotel nearer a ski school meeting point.
