ERMITAGE Wellness- & Spa-Hotel
Saltwater-pool spa hotel in Schönried, a minute from the Horneggli lift
About this hotel
Perched on a sunny terrace above Gstaad, the ERMITAGE Wellness- & Spa-Hotel in Schönried offers a serene escape with panoramic views of the Saanenland mountains. The hotel is set within a park, providing a tranquil atmosphere. Skiers will appreciate the dedicated ski storage, making mornings smoother. After a day on the slopes, the extensive spa area is a highlight, featuring a steam bath, various saunas, a tepidarium, and both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, plus an outdoor hot tub. Rooms are designed for comfort, each with a seating area, minibar, and a balcony to soak in the mountain scenery. Fine Swiss cuisine is served in the restaurant, with half-board options available to complete the experience.
- About 3,700 m² wellness area
- Indoor and outdoor saltwater pools
- Horneggli lift about a minute's walk away
- Gourmet half-board for hotel guests
- Fondue Spycher open in winter
Our take
ERMITAGE's wellness area covers about 3,700 m², and its indoor and outdoor pools are saltwater, filled with heated spring water and natural brine. It sits on Dorfstrasse in Schönried, at about 1,200 m and a few minutes above Gstaad, with the Horneggli lift leaving from the village centre about a minute's walk away and Schönried station around four minutes on foot. Gourmet half-board is included for hotel guests, and the winter fondue in the Fondue Spycher saves an evening out. I would choose it for skiers who want a big spa and a quiet village. Anyone after Gstaad's Promenade at night will be commuting.
- Start the day on the Horneggli lift from the village centre rather than driving to Gstaad: Schönried's own slopes are on your doorstep.
- Book one dinner in the Fondue Spycher, open in winter for hotel guests, as a change from the half-board menu in the ERMITAGE Stuben.
- The old Rellerli gondola from Schönried no longer runs, so plan that mountain as a winter walk rather than a ski run.
- The outdoor saltwater pool is warmest-feeling on a cold, clear evening: go after the lifts close, before dinner service starts.
Why we love it
- Extensive spa with indoor and outdoor pools
- Panoramic mountain views from every balcony
- Half-board option for convenient dining
- Dedicated ski storage for easy mornings
Why guests love itIndoor and outdoor saltwater pools, a 'Family time off' package and a '3 Generations & more' offer show that ERMITAGE expects families, including grandparents. Soundproofed, wood-lined rooms with balconies help when children go to bed before the adults. The Horneggli lift a minute away keeps the morning short, and Schönried station puts Gstaad one stop away by train. What I could not confirm is a supervised kids' club or the minimum age for the pools and saunas, so families with toddlers should not count on childcare. For parents who ski while older children swim and the grandparents enjoy the spa, this is the Saanenland address I would book.
