We chose half-board, which took the stress out of evenings, and the bar was a cosy spot afterwards. The sauna and hot tub cost extra but were worth it after a cold day, and ski storage plus free private parking made logistics easy.

The family rooms have balconies with mountain views, the crêperie downstairs makes dinner with children easy, and the sun terrace suits a long lunch on a bright day. The catch is alpine skiing: the small Hautes-Navières lifts in Le Valtin last ran in winter 2017-2018 and were closed for good in January 2019, so ski lessons and first runs mean a drive up to the small area at the Col de la Schlucht or to Gérardmer, whose lake lies about 17 km from the village.
