Hotels in Abtenau

Hotel Goldener Stern dates from 1592, and staying somewhere so historic in Abtenau's pedestrian zone was a treat for the whole family. The ski area is 500 metres away, an easy walk even with kids. Our room had a balcony and free WiFi. The in-house pastry shop was dangerous: our children insisted on a cake stop every afternoon. The spa was our evening retreat, and the garden with its natural pond is a summer bonus.

Hotel Gutjahr in Abtenau is family-run and it shows in the warm welcome we got. The panoramic mountain views from the hotel were a daily treat, and the indoor pool kept the kids busy while we enjoyed the saunas and steam bath. One of us booked a massage after a long ski day, and the big leisure and fitness area meant there was always something to do.

Gasthaus-Landhotel Traunstein worked brilliantly for our family ski week in Abtenau. Skiing back to the door was a huge help with small children, and they adored the indoor and outdoor play areas. Our family room had a balcony with mountain views, and after dinner in the restaurant we unwound in the sauna and steam room.

Hotel Moisl in the Lammertal Valley had an elegant yet relaxed feel that suited our family well. Our room had a private balcony with partial views of the Tennen Mountains, a lovely spot for morning coffee while the kids got ready. After skiing, we took turns in the cosy spa, and I booked one of the treatments, which was a real treat. Complimentary internet kept the teenagers happy. Quiet, comfortable and welcoming.

Hotel Post Abtenau suited our family perfectly. Our room had a private bathroom and a balcony with mountain views. The kids loved the indoor pool, and the pool with a view was magical at sunset, while the sauna helped us recover after skiing. The family-friendly restaurant served proper Austrian food, and the afternoon high tea became a sweet ritual. The sun terrace was great on clear days. Comfortable and welcoming.
