Le Calgary
Less than 10 m from the Boëtet lift and the Olympic Nordic tracks
About this hotel
Le Calgary sits right at the base of the Saisies Diamond ski slopes, making it a prime spot for those who want to hit the snow quickly. After a day on the mountain, the heated swimming pool, hammam, and spa facilities offer a welcome retreat. Each room provides free Wi-Fi, a balcony with views over the Beaufortain, and satellite TV, with some rooms adapted for reduced mobility. The hotel's restaurant serves regional cuisine alongside a selection of French wines, and guests can unwind on the large terrace overlooking the mountains or enjoy a game of pool in the games room. The atmosphere is relaxed and focused on enjoying the alpine surroundings.

Our take
Le Calgary stands at 73 rue des Périots, less than 10 m from the Boëtet lift and the cross-country tracks, and in Les Saisies that matters twice: the resort sits at 1,650 m, and its Nordic trails hosted the cross-country and biathlon events of the 1992 Albertville Olympics. The owner, Franck Piccard, named the hotel after the 1988 Calgary Games, where he won two Olympic medals. Inside are a heated indoor pool, a hot tub, a sauna, a hammam, boot dryers and an elevator. I would book it for families and for skiers who mix alpine and Nordic days. I would not book it for loud après-ski: evenings revolve around the hotel bar and restaurant.
- With small children, take half-board rather than heading out at night; the hotel also offers breakfast only or room only, and prepares picnic hampers for a day on the slopes.
- The ski school is about 100 m away and the free winter shuttle stops about 100 m from the door, so the car can stay parked all week.
- Alternate your days: rent cross-country skis and set off on the Nordic area that hosted the 1992 Olympic events, right by the hotel, then return to the Espace Diamant lifts the next morning.
- Arriving by car in a snowfall, ask for the covered car park, available alongside the outdoor one for a supplement, and skip clearing the windscreen every morning.
- Wheelchair users get adapted rooms, an accessible restaurant and an elevator, with the snow front less than 10 m away.
Why we love it
- Direct access to the Saisies Diamond ski slopes
- Heated swimming pool and spa facilities
- Balconies with beautiful Beaufortain views
- Regional cuisine and French wine selection
Why guests love itThe Boëtet lift is less than 10 m from Le Calgary's door and the ski school about 100 m away, so small children never walk far in boots, and that short distance is the hotel's real strength for families. Baby equipment is available, the heated indoor pool and the hot tub fill the late afternoon, and an elevator serves the floors. Rooms have a balcony looking over the Beaufortain. The 8.8 average comes from 352 reviews, a large enough sample to trust. What it lacks is a village scene at the door: rue des Périots is quiet, and the tourist office is about 300 m away. For a family week at Les Saisies with the snow on the doorstep, I would put it near the top of my list; for a group chasing nightlife, I would look elsewhere.
