Luxury Ski Hotels in Jackson, Wyoming: The Town Options
For a luxury ski trip based in the town of Jackson rather than at the foot of the lifts, three hotels make the cut: The Wort Hotel and The White Buffalo Club, both within three blocks of Town Square, and Hotel Yellowstone at Jackson Hole, an adults-only retreat of 36 suites on East Gros Ventre Butte. Guests score them 9.5, 8.1 and 9.7, across 411 reviews in total. Know the trade-off before booking: Jackson Hole Mountain Resort sits in Teton Village, about 12 miles from town, so none of the three is ski-in ski-out. What you get instead is the town itself, its restaurants and saloons, and Snow King Mountain rising a few blocks south of the square.
Jackson is a Western town first and a ski base second: wooden boardwalks, the four elk antler arches at the corners of Town Square, saloons such as the Silver Dollar Bar and the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, and the National Elk Refuge on the north edge of town. The big skiing happens 12 miles away in Teton Village, which keeps the town lived-in rather than built around a lift. Luxury here means timber, stone and steak more than glass towers, and in winter the crowd mixes skiers with visitors heading into Grand Teton National Park.
Where to stay
Which Jackson luxury hotel fits your ski trip
Jackson is one of the few big-mountain ski towns where the luxury bed and the slopeside bed are in different places. The resort base in Teton Village sits at 6,311 feet, with 4,139 feet of vertical above it to the 10,450-foot summit, while the town keeps the dining, the galleries and the elk antler arches of Town Square. Sleeping in town means a daily ride to the lifts by hotel shuttle, START bus or car, in exchange for evenings that do not end at the tram plaza.
The Wort Hotel, at 50 North Glenwood Street one block from Town Square, opened in 1941 and is the address with the most history. In 1950 its Silver Dollar Bar was inlaid with 2,032 uncirculated silver dollars from the Denver mint; after the fire of August 1980, local high school students carried the damaged bar to a bank vault, and the hotel reopened in June 1981. For skiers, the useful part is the winter service: the hotel's own shuttle to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and back, a ski valet at the door and rental fitting on site. I would sleep here for Old West character without a complicated morning.
The White Buffalo Club, at 160 West Gill Avenue about three short blocks from the square, is the smaller and quieter downtown choice, with 17 rooms and suites. They range from king rooms to one- to three-bedroom suites and one-bedroom apartment-style units, each with its own washer and dryer, which matters on a week of wet ski layers. The 3,000-square-foot penthouse has three bedrooms and a private deck with a hot tub. A ski valet and a shuttle to Teton Village complete the picture, and the restaurant serves USDA Prime steaks. Its 8.1 is the lowest score of the three, but it rests on 376 reviews, the largest sample.
Hotel Yellowstone at Jackson Hole opened in 2024, billed as the valley's first adults-only luxury hotel. Its 36 suites sit in clusters over four acres of East Gros Ventre Butte, at 1775 NE Butte Road, about ten minutes by car from Town Square, facing the Tetons and the Snake River Valley. The heated indoor pool has retractable glass windows, and the spa adds red light therapy and cold plunges. Olivia's, the restaurant, holds a 2026 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. It has the top score here, 9.7, but on only 11 reviews, and it only works for couples with a car.
How you reach the lifts shapes the week more than the room does. START, the public bus, runs four winter routes between town and Teton Village. Drivers can leave the car at the Stilson lot, the Village Road Transit Center seven miles short of the resort, with several hundred spaces, a heated waiting room and free START rides for the last stretch to the base. Whatever you choose, every skier staying in town ends up on the same Highway 390 into Teton Village, so on a powder morning I would leave well before the first lifts turn, not at the time the hotel breakfast suggests.
Snow King Mountain is what sleeping in town adds that Teton Village cannot match. Its base sits at Snow King Avenue and Cache Street, a few blocks south of Town Square, so the downtown hotels reach it on foot, skis on the shoulder. It is small and steep, and it has run night skiing on weekday evenings in recent seasons. I would use it for a first afternoon to get the ski rhythm back after the flight, or for a few evening runs after a full day at the big resort. Its 2026-27 night calendar had not been published by mid-October 2026.
A traveler's perspectiveI would only sleep in town for a Jackson Hole ski week if the evenings matter as much as the mornings. Then I would choose The Wort Hotel for its own shuttle, its ski valet and a bar with real history, or The White Buffalo Club if several people share and need a multi-bedroom suite with laundry. For a couple who wants quiet and a pool after skiing, Hotel Yellowstone on the butte is my pick, with a rental car. It is adults-only, so families should look at the White Buffalo suites instead. And if first tram every day is the goal, none of these three is the answer: Teton Village is.
Alpine luxuryHotel Yellowstone at Jackson Hole
Adults-only alpine luxury with spa, pool, and mountain views
Why guests love itHotel Yellowstone is adults-only, and it was the perfect five-star treat for our anniversary trip. Our room had a balcony with mountain views and every modern comfort. The infinity pool was breathtaking, and we spent long afternoons between the spa, sauna and fitness centre after skiing. Dinner in the romantic restaurant followed by a drink on the terrace became our nightly ritual. Refined, peaceful and worth every penny.
Alpine luxuryThe Wort Hotel
Old West luxury, spa, and shuttle to Jackson Hole skiing
Why guests love itThe Wort Hotel blends Old West character with modern comfort, and our kids were fascinated by the history the moment we walked in. The free shuttle to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort made ski days effortless. Our room had custom furniture and original artwork, which felt special. After the slopes, the pool and jacuzzi were family time, and the Silver Dollar Bar and Grill served up hearty local fare. Memorable and charming.
Alpine luxuryThe White Buffalo Club
Luxury alpine retreat with spa, steakhouse, and in-room laundry
Why guests love itThe White Buffalo Club offered an alpine luxury feel with warm wooden accents, and the in-room laundry was a surprising lifesaver for a family going through ski layers daily. After skiing, I booked a massage at the spa while the kids rested with free WiFi. Dinner at the on-site steakhouse was a highlight, with an impressive wine list for us and hearty plates for hungry teens. Comfortable and refined.
Local tips
- 1The Wort's winter shuttle leaves on two morning departures and comes back once in the afternoon from Teton Village: if you want après-ski at the base, plan the START bus home instead.
- 2Even if you sleep elsewhere, look closely at the counter of the Wort's Silver Dollar Bar: its 2,032 coins date from 1950, and the bar spent the months after the 1980 fire in a bank vault.
- 3Use the Wort's ski valet and its in-house rental fitting: your skis wait at the door and fitted rentals avoid the morning queue at a Teton Village shop.
- 4If you drive from the butte or from town, park at the Stilson lot seven miles before Teton Village: it is free, holds several hundred cars and START rides to the base are free from there.
- 5At The White Buffalo Club, take a suite rather than a king room if you ski with others: the washer and dryer in each unit dries base layers and gloves overnight.
- 6At Hotel Yellowstone, keep the arrival evening for the heated indoor pool and the cold plunge: the town sits above 6,200 feet, and an easy first night helps before the 10,450-foot summit.
- 7Outside this selection, two more in-town luxury addresses deserve a look: the five-star Wyoming Inn of Jackson Hole, scored 9.1 on 738 reviews, with a pool and hot tub, and The Rusty Parrot Lodge and Spa, 9.8 on 64 reviews, with a full-service spa and the Wild Sage restaurant. Neither is ski-in either.
- 8Keep the first afternoon for Snow King Mountain, a few blocks south of Town Square: after a flight into Jackson Hole Airport, a few steep runs near the hotel beat a 12-mile drive.
- 9Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has announced Friday 27 November 2026 as its 2026-27 opening day; for an early December stay in town, watch how much terrain is open before committing to a long week.
