For a family ski trip to Park City, I would sleep at Park City Mountain Village or within a short walk of it: the First Time lift and the beginner conveyors sit right at the base, so a four-year-old's first morning starts without a gondola ride. Families whose children already ski blue runs have more choice, including Canyons Village and Deer Valley's Silver Lake. From there, beginners progress to the easy slopes served by the Crescent, Payday, Bonanza, Silverlode and King Con chairlifts, all on the Mountain Village side of the mountain.
Deer Valley comes with one rule that settles the question for some families: it has been a skiers-only mountain since it opened in the early 1980s, so a teenager on a snowboard cannot ride there. Its ski school and the state-licensed Children's Center both work from Snow Park Lodge, and the Children's Center takes non-skiing children from 2 months to 12 years, booked by phone. Best Western Plus Landmark Inn is the most reviewed family hotel away from the ski bases (624 reviews, 9.0 average), but it stands at Kimball Junction, a few miles' drive from the ski bases. The trade is plain: an indoor pool and hot tub for the evening, and the free buses from the Kimball Junction Transit Center, about five minutes on foot, instead of walking to the snow. With toddlers, boots and skis, I would plan every ski morning there around the car or the bus timetable. The hotel also has a sauna by the pool, and Deer Valley lies about 10 miles away, which rules it out as a base for a Deer Valley ski week.
One address needs a warning. Black Rock Mountain Resort, at 909 W Peace Tree Trail, is in Heber City by the Jordanelle Reservoir, not in Park City: count about 6 miles by road to Deer Valley's new East Village base and its Jordanelle gondola. It suits families who drive and want the expansion terrain on the east side of Deer Valley, which Deer Valley's East Village expansion has been adding in phases, with new runs and lifts. It does not suit families who want to stroll to Main Street for dinner. Deer Valley has announced December 5 as its planned opening day for the 2026-27 season, snow permitting, so an early December stay there is a gamble on the weather.
Evenings matter with children, and two easy ones sit near the base. The Resort Center ice rink, at the foot of Park City Mountain, lends ice walkers to children for free and closes on days when heavy snow is forecast. The Park City Museum on Main Street, under 20 minutes on foot from the Mountain Village base, has a mining railcar children can climb aboard. Sleeping near Main Street or Mountain Village puts both within walking distance; from Kimball Junction or Heber City, each one becomes a drive. Skating time at the rink is unlimited, and an all-day pass lets you leave and come back, which fits neatly between an early dinner and bedtime.
